The Elementals of Anora

There are various types of elemental in Anora but they all share aspects things in common. They are not "alive" as other races are, possessing no blood or organs. They have no scent, do not eat or breath and do not give birth as others understand, though the less pure are capable of interaction with other races as those races do with each other.
Gender does not exist for the Elemental Races though those that interact closely with other races, such as the Five Peoples, tend to adopt one out of convenience. The Primals and Ancient Ones are unlikely to even understand the concept.
All elementals suffer more than other races in regions without magic, many will crumble and fade into nothingness within minutes if they were to leave Anora.

Primals (NPC)
There are four primal elementals hidden away in Anora. Ancient, immortal and incomprehensible in their thoughts and actions. They are revered almost as deities by other elemental races though they grant no power and care not for others.
They are at least as old as Anora itself and are each tied to a singular pure element so strongly that their existence is one and the same. As such to kill Ninazu, the Water Primal is to kill all Anora's oceans and similar in kind for the other three. Fortunately they  are rarely seen and near impossible to harm by conventional means.
They are not so much neutral with other races, as entirely uninterested. The exception being Ninazu who seems to consider the merfolk as domesticated pets to be occasionally watched from afar which can perhaps be interpreted as something like affection.

Ancient Ones (NPC)
The oldest Elemental Races possess almost alien minds and are difficult to commune with. As a people they existed on Earth as it was before Anora’s creation, but unlike the Primals they are not immortal.
As they age, their continue to grow in size and power until they reach the natural end of their ‘life’. When this time comes they collapse, breaking apart with each part becoming a new being of their kind.
As such, none that exist today remember the Earth as it was. They are tied to one of the pure elements and possess power over it, which shapes their mindsets. Those of air are endlessly moving and rarely seen, those of earth are quiet and distant. Those of fire are wild, quick to anger while those of water are unpredictable in the extreme.
None are social however and their mindset is so different to the other races that they are as much forces of nature as living beings.

Over time the magic of Anora drew some Elementals closer with the races of the world and with each other. This in time gave rise to new Elemental Races who were more flexible and free thinking than their predecessors, more accepting of swift change and capable of conversing with near-humanoid races such as elves, merfolk and such. This flexibility manifests as connection to more than one element, though it also leaves them less 'pure'.
As yet none have come into being tied to more than two element. Such a being would likely be worrying and too wild for the others in any case after all it is elemental belief that other races are composed of all elements in  impure mixes.
Unlike other elementals, the form and shape of these races are more malleable.  They are far from true shapeshifters however as they must remain mostly humanoid and are always formed of at least one of the  elements they comprise. Due to their lack of purity, they cannot truly command the elements as the others can and instead only influence them in minor ways as noted.

Lexicon:
An - A mythical figure among the Five Peoples though little is said of it. They claim he was first, but refuse to answer what that means to others. Many of them believe that Anora's name itself is a tribute to An.

The Earth as it once was - The Earth before Anora, when magic existed there and all peoples lived side by side.

People - Any races that is social and interacts with others. Civilisation is not a requirement, only that you talk and enjoy the company of others. Within the Elemental Races, the only ones not considered people are the Primals and Ancient Ones. There is some dispute as to whether Eldar Vampires are people.

Purity - Ones closeness to the four core elements. The Primals and Ancient Ones are truly pure. The Five Peoples are looked down upon for being impure, but are still considered far purer than the other races who the Elementals believe are made up of a chaotic mixture of all the elements.
